Crying At Suffering Pain In The Hospital
After I was rushed to the hospital
in a taxi by a successful computer student, he was astounded that I kept crying after stepping directly onto a large nail
that spliced through one inch of rubber soled sandal and went directly into the soft pad of my foot.
You are like a little child! he said,
as I kept bawling.
Finally the scientist in him found
my reaction interesting.
However, it was obvious to me, that
the Chinese are trained from childhood to repress crying at times that we might cry, and even to find it evidence of bad manners.
Bad manners because it makes other
people feel uncomfortable.
