My First Valentine: Age Six

My first crush on a boy was so foolish I wonder why I even bother to recall it.  I was interested in this boy enough to ride my bicycle to the end of Lapalme Street and look at his house, then turn my bike around and ride home.

Contented just to have seen his house.

Stupidities like this, make me believe in past life relationships. Ian sent me a Valentine's Day card with a skinny white rabbit on it, and some thing to do with carrots, which encouraged me.  Of course, I chose to ignore the fact that our mothers bought us whole books of Valentine cards and we used up the hwole book on our entire class of school mates.

I sent Ian a Valentine too, as I did to the other 35 students in myGrade On class.

Why did I like him?

Why did I like Edgard in Grade Two?

Why did I like David in Grade Three?

Was I nuts? I fell in with all the other girls and boys by Grade Four iun deciding I hated the opposite sex, and would never marry, and really have nothing to do with Stupid Boys.

Boys were generally louder, messier, more aggressive, and involved with boring activities like my brother who got seriously bitten while chasing a raccoon through the woods of Ontario, trying to catch it.

Since I rarely talked to my first three crushes, why did I like them? They never talked to me, and therefore it is only on the way that they looked, or some obscure knowledge of friendships in ancient Persia, or Peruvian villages, that reconnected us in this life, where we were forced to send Valentine cards to entire classes of Canadian elementary students, in the dim hopes our separated souls would find one another, and interconnect.
