Memories of a Travelling Woman: Honolulu, Hawaii

Honolulu, Hawaii
I saw the room fill with angels
Age 20

The night I arrive here miracles happen.

My friends do not meet me at the airport, as they have mistaken the time of arrival.  I am twenty and not too worried, not as much as I should be, for I do not know of any hotel to stay at.

Disembarking from the plane I smell the air and it is so fragrant with flowers, as though every square inch of the coountry was sprayed with orange blossom perfume, I cannot believe it is real.  A young woman on the same plane as I walks down the steps ahead of me and I note she is wearing a completely see-through dress, voile, and showing bra and panties!!!

I take the budget bus into town and get off at the most famous shopping mall.  Malls are familiar to all North Americans and in spite of the orange blossom perfume, and necklace of orchids around my neck, and the coconut vendors, I feel oddly safe.

The miracle is that I run into all my friends here and do not have to take the return plane home.  They have managed to be competent enough to rent a two-storey house where The Doors and The Rolling Stones play morning till night.

I can't say I learn about a foreign culture.  Not only that, my boyfriend has sent me to have a rest holiday, because I am weakened by a recent hospital operation.  Though we are engaged to be married, he trusts me.

This holiday is similar to many taken by many: sun, surf, and sand.
