I was surprised when walking through the China Folk Village Theme Park in Shenzhen with Mr. Cao to hear him refer to Taiwan Province when we passed that area
in the park.
Taiwan, with its own flag, coinage,
and army, seems to be separate.
However China does not recognize
that, and refers to Taiwan as though it were still part of China, and had never minted its own coins.
Therefore, be detached when Chinese hosts discuss this potentially volatile issue.
Also, the Taiwanese like the Hong
Kongese are enjoying all the splendours of the New
China, from business opportunities to a much cheaper labour force, from lavish housing to wonderful shopping.
